Inspiration Day: Florence Harrison

I am a bit angry with my library for not having a few art books. They have Renoir and Monet, but fail to offer other AMAZING artists like John William Waterhouse or John William Godward, or Anne Estelle Rice, or (my latest discovery) Florence Harrison (aka Emma Florence Harrison) who paints goddesses with such incredible detail that her magic emanates off the screen. And isn’t it funny that she paints women who look like Florence Welch when her name is Florence? I’m sorry I just thought that was too awesome…

Seriously though, I feel like a lot of artists are completely underrated. Especially many women artists, who have such grand narrative in their art that takes a lot of imagination and thought when Pollock and Picasso get praised? Don’t get me wrong, I love abstract art, but I fully believe that most of it is taken too seriously while others get overlooked. Just a thought! Enjoy getting swept through the beautiful medieval portal of Florence!
